Access to Health Care Services

The Bureau of Access to Health Care Services facilitates enrollment into quality healthcare by: processing insurance applications for low income children under age 19; assisting clients with applying for health insurance and providing services to help clients navigate the Medicaid system; and scheduling transportation for Medicaid recipients to receive necessary medical treatment.

Renewal of Medical Assistance

Did you know that May 31, 2022 will be the last date folks on Medicaid will be able to get a renewal of benefits over the phone.  After this date, recipients will have to come in to our offices to determine if they qualify.  Call us today at 410-313-5845 to learn more!

What Is Medicaid?

Medicaid provides health coverage to millions of people, including eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women. Medicaid is administered by states, according to federal requirements.

The Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP) provides transportation services for clients who need medical care and have no transportation.

Maryland Children's Health Program (MCHP)
Content

Howard County Health Department determines eligibility for MCHP.  The MCHP program provides full health care coverage to pregnant women and children up to 19 years of age. Covered services include in-patient hospital care, doctor visits, lab tests, dental care, eye care, medicines and immunizations.
