School Based Wellness Centers
School-based clinics are located in elementary, middle and one high school in the Howard Count Public School System. They are made possible through a partnership between the Howard County Health Department and Howard County Public School System. Columbia Medical Practice and Klebanow and Associates pediatric providers see their own patients for acute illnesses and injuries and for the follow up on chronic health problems such as asthma, ADHD and weight management. They bill families directly for the care provided. Howard County General Hospital pediatric emergency room physicians provides care to all other children without charging a fee.
Parents are always welcome to join the visits from their phones, computers, or in person at the health suite.
Eligibility
- Children must be enrolled in the schools that have SBWCs to receive services.
Cost
- For the three traditional wellness centers, only Medical Assistance is billed. There are no deductibles or copayments.
- For the eight telemedicine centers, if a child sees a Howard County General Hospital physician, there is no charge. (If a child receives telemedicine services from his or her pediatric provider at Columbia Medical Practice or Klebanow and Associates, those practices will bill families in the same manner as if it is an office visit.)
