Registration Begins in February!
The Junior Counselor Program emphasizes a high-energy, interactive hands-on learning experience! The program requires students to commit to one mandatory training camp and two-weeks of field experience. During training, mentors will review the curriculum, use team building techniques and experiential learning to prepare students for service. Once training has been completed, a Junior Counselor serves on site at a Howard County Recreation & Parks summer camp of their choosing as a "field experience".

This program went above and beyond any expectations. The classroom learning portion was so valuable and he learned a lot. He also enjoyed it very much!
My son has really enjoyed being a Junior Counselor for the past four years. He hopes to be employed next year and bring his sister to learn from him how to be a great counselor.
Wanted to share what my grandson told me when I picked him up from a boy scout activity, the purpose of which was to orient Webelos and cubs scouts. The troop planned activities and then worked with the younger boys. When I asked how things went, totally unsolicited my grandson said he had used skills that he learned being a Junior Counselor. He said it really helped him talking and leading the younger kids, made me glad that he saw connections.
