Ellicott City Ranked Best Place to Live in Maryland
Today, Ellicott City was ranked the Best Place to Live in Maryland, ranking 10th on Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live” list.
The Wall: Dinner & Dialogue
During this session participants will engage in a facilitated dialogue that is meant to unpack The Wall, a documentary on the effect of the imposing wall lining the Southern U.S. border has on migrant families. The Wall is a compilation of short documentaries on the current undocumented immigration crisis touching topics such as The Wall, the effects of family separation at the border, deportation, and DACA.
Amazing Race: A Trip to Latin America
Take a trip to Latin America with a variety of activities that will introduce you to the different Latin American cultures that contribute to the beautiful mosaic that is Howard County. Join us on Friday, September 24th from 6:00p - 8:00p at HCLS, Miller Branch 9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042. ***Masks are to be worn covering the nose and mouth at all times.***

Afro-Latino: Dual Ethnicity & The Experiences of Black Latinos in the U.S.
Join us for a virtual lunch & learn that will explore the cultural diversity within Latin American cultures. During the hour you will hear a presentation on the African roots of various Latin American cultures, as well as hear a conversation between Afro-Latinos about their experience within the United States as persons with dual ethnicities. Tune in to this virtual event and learn about the diversity within Latin American cultures.
Human Rights Commission Awards Ceremony
Join us for an evening of celebration as we recognize individuals, students, and organizations who have made significant impacts in Howard County in the areas of human rights, social justice, and community uplift. Beginning with a light reception at 6:30p our awards ceremony will begin at 7p. Spend the evening with us at the Howard County Conservancy as we celebrate and honor Howard County residents committed to protecting and promoting human rights.

Join us for a virtual lunch & learn on Intersectionality. Claudia M. Allen will present on how embracing the complexity of human diversity fosters equitable environments. Her presentation will be followed by a discussion. Tune in to learn more about intersectionality and its role in creating equitable spaces.

Diversity Awareness Book/Film Discussion
In celebration of National Diversity Awareness Month, the Howard County Office of Human Rights & Equity is partnering with the Howard County Library System to host a book discussion series. The goal of this discussion series is to explore and facilitate multiple conversations around race, belonging, immigration, dispossession, and the lived experience of the socially invisible through narrative.
2021 #HoCoYouth Diversity Month Speaker Series
Join the Howard County Office of Human Rights & Equity and the Howard County Public School System’s High School students as they put on a captivating speaker series to celebrate inclusion and cultural diversity. Featuring students of a variety of different racial, ethnic, gender, and religious backgrounds from our many different High Schools, these students tackle some of diversity and inclusion’s most difficult topics.
Old Willow Way Stream Stabilization Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize a portion of stream near the Centennial Park North Area pedestrian bridge in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 27th. The project is not expected to impact the pedestrian trail or vehicular traffic in the project area and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by late December 2021.

Howard County Executive Lifts Mask Mandate for Government Buildings
Effective Tuesday, February 22nd, masks will no longer be required in Howard County Government buildings. However, masks will still be required on public transit and at the Howard County Detention Center.
