A Howard County construction project to restore and stabilize approximately 1,700 linear feet of stream near 8280 Park Drive in Ellicott City is underway. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late October 2019. 

Howard County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 18 to discuss the future construction of a free-standing, two-story East Columbia 50+ Center. Construction is expected to begin in July 2020.

The new 171,000 square-foot facility is located at Bollman Place in Savage and serve as the company’s East Coast location for food preparation, cooking, assembly, and distribution. Freshly has spent over $25 Million on this new facility and currently employs 500 workers, with plans to hire significantly more.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – County Executive Calvin Ball announced that Howard County was recognized among the state’s 2019 Healthiest Maryland Businesses (HMB) Wellness at Work Silver Awardees for accomplishments in promoting worksite health. The HMB awards were awarded by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) on June 7 at their 10th annual Worksite Health and Wellness Symposium at Martin’s West.

Howard County construction project to extend the water main at the intersection of US 1 (Washington Boulevard) and MD 103 (Dorsey Road) in Elkridge, is expected to begin on or about Monday, June 17. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late August.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball joined a group of elected officials and the Howard County Library System (HCLS) to honor Clarksville Middle School 8th grader, Saketh Sundar, one of the co-champions at this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee. Ball officially declared June 12, 2019 as “Saketh Sundar Day” in Howard County.

Today, County Executive Calvin Ball announced that Howard County will receive $518,049 in grant funding from the Governor’s Office for Children and the Maryland Children’s Cabinet. The funds will go to the Howard County Local Children's Board, comprised of public and private members working collaboratively to ensure a strong continuum of services for families and children in our community.

On June 4th, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball hosted Howard County’s first Local Business Certification Workshop, in partnership with the Office of Purchasing. The free event provided local business owners with assistance in the Howard County Procurement Process, the Local Business Initiative, and the Equal Business Opportunity (EBO) Program.

Today, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball released the 2019 report, “Response To A Crisis: Opioids in Howard County.” The report from the Howard County Health Department detailed the current statistics on overdoses, the action plan to address the crisis, and stakeholder engagement efforts.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has re-opened the Agricultural Land Preservation Program (ALPP) to protect county farmland and support local farmers. The program was shut down a year ago due to a budget shortfall. By working with the Department of Planning and Zoning, the Finance Department, and the Agricultural Preservation Board, Ball was able to responsibly restore this important program.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will join Police Chief Lisa Myers, Special Olympics Maryland Board of Directors Chairman John Newnan, officers and Special Olympic athletes for Howard County’s 34th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run on Thursday, June 6 at 9:00 a.m. at Centennial Park South, 10000 MD 108 in Ellicott City. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will hold a press conference on Wednesday to make an announcement regarding agricultural preservation. Ball will announce major action to support our local farmers, step up preservation efforts, and protect our environment. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has directed the county government to observe LGBTQ+ Pride Month during June to support those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ and to provide opportunities for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity.

On May 30, 2019, a tornado warning was issued for Howard County at approximately 3:22 p.m. The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down near Glenelg, causing over 3,000 homes to lose power and over 30 roads to close.

A Howard County construction project to install a mini-roundabout at the intersection of Stevens Forest Road, Nightstreet Hill and Farewell Road in Columbia, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 10.

Despite slowed revenue growth in the county, Ball worked with the County Council to successfully fund key community priorities, including the most funding ever provided to the Howard County Public School System, stronger public safety, improved health, a cleaner environment, reliable infrastructure, prosperous businesses, and an innovative, efficient government, all without raising property taxes

A Howard County construction project to upgrade the Allenford (10068 Green Clover Drive) and Chamberlea (2855 Thornbrook Road) sewer pumping stations in Ellicott City is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 10. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-December.
