Howard County Department of Public Works to Host Public Meeting on Plan to Shut Down Groundwater Treatment at New Cut Landfill Site
Howard County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, July 9 to discuss shut down of the New Cut Landfill’s groundwater treatment system later this summer. Based on county corrective actions, all recovery and monitoring wells at the site have met drinking water standards for six years, so the treatment system is no longer necessary.

Howard County will soon welcome the nation’s largest Busboys & Poets, and the first in the Baltimore region, to the Merriweather District in Downtown Columbia. The new 10,700-square-foot, two-story location will bring the Washington, DC-based restaurant, bookstore and event space into the forthcoming mixed-use neighborhood being built by the Howard Hughes Corporation. Historic Ellicott City’s St. Luke AME Church Retaining Wall Repair Project Has Begun
A Howard County construction project to repair and replace the stacked stone retaining wall aside St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, located at the intersection of Main Street and Ellicott Mills Drive in Historic Ellicott City is underway. The project will include the stabilization and shoring up of the steep slope and the armoring of the stream banks that were damaged by the 2016 and 2018 floods.
