The County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 23 to present plans for a project to stabilize an unnamed tributary to the Hudson Branch in Historic Ellicott City. The stream was significantly eroded stream by 2016 and 2018 floods.

A Howard County construction project to restore and stabilize approximately 1,200 linear feet of stream channel adjacent to 8409 Sweet Cherry Lane in Laurel is scheduled to begin on or about Tuesday, January 21. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late October.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball held a lease signing ceremony yesterday with The African Art Museum of Maryland (AAMM), as it plans to relocate to Long Reach Village Center, in Columbia. The museum, entering an historic 40th year, is one of three in the United States focused exclusively on African art and was founded by Doris Ligon in 1980.

The US Composting Council’s “Seal of Testing Assurance” (STA) signifies that the HoCoGro compost produced at County’s Alpha Ridge Landfill meets all federal, state and local regulations and permitting to which the STA Certified Compost products are subject. The County’s HoCoGro compost is the only compost in Maryland produced by a local jurisdiction with this distinction.
