Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced that all flags at County buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Craig Ralston, who passed on February 3, 2022. 

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Howard County’s Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Stormwater Management Division will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, March 8th starting at 7:00 p.m., to present plans for a stormwater management pond repair project near 15036 Scottswood Court in Woodbine.

Police are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information in the case.

Howard County’s Department of Public Works Transportation and Special Projects Division will hold a public meeting on Thursday, February 24th to present project plans to complete the relocation of Montevideo Road at a site east of 7650 Port Capital Drive to 7286 Montevideo Road in Jessup, to provide safer access along the relocated Montevideo Road corridor.

A bikeshare pilot program that provided fitness-friendly transportation in Columbia and Ellicott City is coming to an end this month, as officials evaluate the next generation of services to provide county residents. 

Today, President Joe Biden acknowledged Howard County for its use of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding to support educators and bus drivers during a speech to National Association of Counties (NACo) leaders.  

The County has received the highest possible credit rating, AAA, from all three bond rating agencies - Fitch Ratings, Moody’s Investor Services and Standard & Poor’s. Among more than 3,100 counties in the nation, Howard County is one of 49 counties to receive a AAA rating from all three agencies, affirming the County’s ability to pay its debts and gives taxpayers the lowest possible interest when repaying bonds sold by the county.
